Last week a client asked me, “Allison, how can I possibly position myself as an expert in my business when I know that there are people in the world who are more experienced and knowledgeable than I am?”

I love this question because many of us can relate to it: the feeling that you’re, well, kind of “faking it” in your business. Because, heck, I can do a Google search and find 10 other people who seem like they know more than I do in my field!

The View from Above the Clouds in Your Virtual Business

One of my favorite things about being an entrepreneur with a virtual business is that I can work from anywhere. Well, anywhere that has an Internet connection and my computer, that is – and these days, that’s a lot of places!

In fact, as I write this blog post I’m in an airplane high above the clouds looking down at the sunny Grand Canyon. How lucky is that? (I kind of wish I were down there right now with a backpack and a walking stick…)

The Skinny on Focus: 3 Tips to Stay More Focused through the Work Day

Focus is a big deal these days, mostly because it seems so hard to come by (thanks a lot, social media!). There’s always something else that will demand your attention, whether it’s the laundry, a phone call from your sister, your cat, someone texting you… or even realizing that you really need to file your nails (guilty!).

Anything can be a distraction if you let it. But the good news is that focus can be honed. It’s a skill and a muscle that develops just like our ability to remember names and faces. And don’t tell me you’re just “bad at names.” I worked a job for four years that required I remember the names and faces of hundreds of clients, and believe me, when you practice, you get better.
